I’ll be the first person to admit that most times Hallmark non-branded stickers from the 80s are generally weird and silly and very rarely seem cohesively designed. There are a lot of anthropomorphic items like food, shoes, and dust bunnies, quip-y stickers aimed at middle-aged Moms who have no good reason to purchase them in the first place, and photo-realistic renderings of holiday icons for occasions that don’t really call for stickers like Thanksgiving and Memorial day. But every so often there is a sheet of stickers that is just 100% on target and full of design bliss. This sheet of BMX stickers released in 1985 are a perfect example…
I would have traded SO MANY Garbage Pail Kids to get my hands on a sheet of these back in 1985. From the knock-off Airwalk shoe stickers, to the almost Hutch-Brand gloves, these stickers are just so spot on. The fact that these pre-date the movie Rad is crazy, but it goes to show how accurate that movie is to the BMX sport as well. I don’t know if it’s legal to marry a sheet of sticker in the United States, but if it were, I’d consider committing polygamy with this sheet of stickers.
Rounding out this post is a set of three prism vending machine sticker sheets ore or less on theme with BMX. The sheet above is definitely BMX themed and it’s pretty glorious even if it is rather generic. The two sheets below are more in the realm of actual motor-cross, but since I picked them up as a set I figured I’d include them here. Also, the one on the left is fantastic, and if I ever get a full-back tattoo, this image is a contender.
