Recently, Kirk over at the Secret Fun Blog did a little travelogue deal on his trip through the south, in particular his trip to Atlanta and Athens. Well, while in Athens he made a stop at an awesome comic/stuff store called Bizarro Wuxtry, run by a cool guy named Devlin Thompson. Well, I’ve been jonesing for a visit to such a place for the last year or so since I started this site (I don’t have much of anything all that interesting right near me), and I figured that Athens being only about 45 minutes from here, I’d take a trek up to see the place for myself.

Holy-crap-buckets this place was awesome. I thought about taking a camera, but I figured since Kirk did such a great job with his, I’d just point over to his write up instead. Bizarro is everything I’ve been looking for in a store, plenty of ephemera, comics, magazines, toys, models, you name it, and it’s probably in there somewhere. Devlin even had a super cool poster of Adrienne Barbeau hanging on the wall, you know the one…

…, so you know this place is legit. Seriously though, it’s really a great place and freaking big too. There are like six rooms full of all kinds of stuff, stuff that I never see outside of conventions and eBay. It took my wife and I awhile to browse through the place, trying to breathe in all the different things; me muttering under my breath that I’m gonna go broke if I stay in here in here any longer, and my wife probably worrying about that very thing. Devlin’s a really nice guy too, very welcoming and easy to talk to. I guess I’m more used to the cranky Comic Book Guy sort of shop keep that doesn’t want you touching anything you aren’t going to buy, so it was really cool to browse this place with no pressure, just some fun conversation (honestly, I can’t remember the last time someone struck up a conversation about John Waters in which we actually got to talk about eating dog poop and running around with a sausage strapped to a penis.) I didn’t pull in a huge haul, but to give you an idea here are a couple of things that I picked up that I’ve been looking for, for awhile…

Famous Monsters of Filmland magazine back issues. I’ve been wanting to check one out forever, and now I’ve got one from the 80s, which I’m sure I’ll scan in and share at some point..

…as well as some Choose Your Own Adventure style books in other series like the Indiana Jones Find Your Fate books and the Super Powers Which Way books.

Anyway, I just wanted to point out this place for anyone in the Atlanta area that’s looking for a great comic shop with a crazy atmosphere and a really nice shop keep.
