For all of those joining me for the first time, welcome to the Return of the 31 Days of Monsters Halloween countdown here at Branded in the 80s! I had a blast last year, so again I’m counting down 31 of my favorite monsters from the Real Ghostbusters cartoon. All of these monsters come straight from my vintage animation cel collection, and my wife and I tried our best to put them in a not-so-scary to really-freaking-creepy kind of order with the creepiest falling on All Hallows Eve.
Dipping into yet another really cool episode, today’s shade-like monster is non other than Count Von Blookenvooten, from episode 127, “My Left Fang”!
What I really dug about this episode was the Benny Hill-esque humor and chase sequences, it’s what this cartoon does well when it’s at its best. Basically, the guys are called to a weird down in Transylvania where for once they’re not trying to capture spooks, but find some missing ones. The weird inhabitants of this village are worried because all their ghosts have been disappearing. Turns out that one of the town’s ex-residents, is back from the spirit world, the vampire Count Von Blookenvooten. Along with his cross-dressing igor, and his very German manly maid, the Count is feeding on the ectoplasm of local spirits in order to regain his corporeal form. Thing is, he only needs one more ghost, and Slimer might just be that victim!
Adding to the zaniness, there’s a sequence involving a support group for spooks that have lost their ectoplasmic goop! How weird!
Come back tomorrow for another Real Ghostbusters monster animation cel as I count down towards one of my favorite on Halloween day!
