On this latest episode of the Branded in the 80s podcast I take a minute and give a little appreciation to one of my favorite animation writers, the great Michael Reaves. Though he may not be a household name, he worked on a ton of the cartoons of the 70s, 80s, and 90s, contributing some of the best episodes of each series he touched. For those who aren’t familiar, Reaves has written for a ton of animated series, some of the more notable ones being Blackstar, The Smurfs, He-Man and the Masters of the Universe, Droids, Ewoks, the Transformers, The Real Ghostbusters, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Gargoyles, and Batman the Animated Series (including co-writing the Mask of the Phantasm film.)
In this episode I specifically touch on three of my favorite series that he worked on, the Teen Wolf, Jem and Dungeons and Dragons cartoons.
You can find out more about Reaves on his wiki, but there is also a lot of great content from the man himself on his blog (he hasn’t been healthy enough to update it in a while, but there are a lot of interesting pieces over there.)
I also give a shout out to the guys at the Nerd Lunch Podcast which is sadly ending their podcast run after nine solid years of pop culture fun. You can find the show at their website, or on most any podcatcher as well.
