Branded Microcast Episode 19, You’ll believe Richard Pryor can fly…

By Shawn Robare

As promised in yesterday’s Peel Here column, today’s microcast is a double stuffed conversation/rant about Superman III.  From the madcap romp of an opening…

…to the uncomfortably underachieving comedy of the usually much better Richard Pryor…

There are still a couple of good moments though, including my favorite Superman movie moment, dark Supes versus Clark Kent (even if it doesn’t make any logical sense)…

…and the seriously creepy Braniaic-like robot villain lady…

Maybe Superman III was way ahead of its time. Everything you found wrong with this movie-bad science, bad comedy, bad story logic and bad character writing were the same sorts of things that bug me about the Transformer movies. The only exception is Transformers has great special effects. I looked it up and Wikipedia says that despite all the criticism Superman III was one of the highest grossing movies worldwide in ’83, which means if it were released today it’s so awful it would probably make ten billion million dollars.

Oh, my god. I never saw this. I saw the first and second movies but never the third. I had no idea Richard Pryor was in it!!
